Cleveland Meredith, 58, who received a pardon from former President Donald Trump for his role in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, has been arrested and charged with threatening judges. The charges were detailed in a criminal complaint unsealed Monday in federal court in Atlanta.
Meredith is accused of making threats against judges who presided over cases connected to the Jan. 6 riot. In an April post on Facebook, he allegedly wrote, “ALL J6 Federal JUDGES will be EXECUTED!” according to the complaint.
Prosecutors have requested Meredith be detained, citing several threatening messages he posted in recent weeks that called for violence following the midterm elections. One post from October 6 read, “Make damn sure that you’re on the right team going into the midterms...firing squads will commence on Wednesday, 11/04/26,” the complaint states.
Meredith was among over 1,500 individuals charged in connection with the January 6 attack, an effort to prevent the certification of Joe Biden's 2020 presidential election victory. He had driven to Washington, D.C., on the evening of January 6 with a pistol, a rifle, 2,500 rounds of ammunition, and 10 large-capacity ammunition feeding devices. Authorities alleged that while in Washington, he texted a relative, stating his intent to shoot then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Meredith pleaded guilty in 2021 to making interstate threats and received a 28-month prison sentence from U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson.
