A man died on Thursday morning after resisting arrest outside the Elephant and Castle Hotel in Adelaide's CBD. Police were called to West Terrace shortly after 4:15 a.m. following reports of a man behaving in a disorderly manner and damaging vehicles.

While officers attempted to arrest the man, he resisted, according to SA Police. During the process, the man became unresponsive. Despite efforts by police and paramedics to perform CPR, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The man has not yet been identified.

The incident is reported to have occurred between the Elephant and Castle Hotel and a Lexus Adelaide dealership. An employee at the Elephant and Castle told The Advertiser that hotel staff had called the police after observing an individual walking laps around the premises. The staff member alleged the individual was holding an object but did not provide further details.

His death will be subject to a coroner's investigation and a police commissioner's inquiry.
