Two individuals have been arrested as part of a murder investigation following the death of a man who was assaulted in a shop in East Finchley, north London. Paul Heyfron, 53, died on Sunday, twelve days after he was attacked.
Detectives arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of murder at a house in Lewisham, south-east London. A 47-year-old woman was also taken into custody on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Emergency services were initially called to the Sunshine shop on Brook Walk around 10 p.m. on June 30 following reports of an assault. Mr. Heyfron was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries twelve days later. The shop's owner reportedly intervened during the incident and suffered a minor injury himself. The owner also performed CPR on Mr. Heyfron after he lost consciousness.
A staff member recalled that two men were outside the shop before entering and engaging in a fight, prompting the owner's intervention. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the shop to establish the sequence of events.
Detective Inspector Jon Moseling, the senior investigating officer, stated that while the arrests are a significant development, inquiries are ongoing to fully understand the circumstances of the incident. He urged anyone with information, CCTV, or doorbell camera footage to contact the police and cautioned against engaging with online speculation.
Police are appealing for witnesses and information. Those with relevant details can call 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
