A decorated Marine veteran arrested with a firearm at the Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles was found with hundreds of pages of documents, including copies of former First Lady Melania Trump's daily schedule and detailed notes on Secret Service agents.
Jeanine John Taele, 38, of Downey, California, appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, where prosecutors revealed the extent of the materials allegedly in his possession. Taele, who was dressed in a suicide smock, is currently deemed mentally unfit to stand trial. His bail was revoked, and he remains in custody pending a Sept. 9 court appearance.
Federal agents initially observed Taele on July 31 while assessing security for then-President Trump's visit to the club on August 4. Prosecutors stated Taele allegedly walked around the course wearing an earpiece, photographing and filming security planning activities. He returned to the course on August 2, approaching federal agents and falsely claiming to work for the State Department.
During the encounter, Taele allegedly admitted to having a loaded firearm in his pickup truck in the club's parking lot. Sheriff's deputies detained him, discovering a 16-round magazine with hollow-point ammunition. A subsequent search of his truck revealed a loaded 9mm pistol, binoculars, and a "security protection agent" badge.
Investigators searched Taele's home the following day, seizing an illegally modified AR-style rifle, additional firearms, body armor, high-capacity magazines, and communications equipment. Seven notebooks containing detailed surveillance logs were also recovered.
Taele is federally charged with possession of an unregistered short-barreled rifle, a modification that reduced the barrel length from 14 inches to 10 inches. This charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. He served in the Marine Corps from March 2008 to March 2016, achieving the rank of corporal and completing deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. His military decorations include two Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals and campaign medals for Iraq and Afghanistan.
Prosecutors revealed Taele's notebooks contained 208 pages with drawings and sketches of the golf course, lists of Secret Service schedules, details about individual security members, and copies of Melania Trump's schedule. He had also reportedly researched "going off the grid."
Judge John Lonergan commented on the disturbing nature of the allegations, stating, "The allegations against Taele are alarming in this day and age with the violence that is creeping into our everyday lives, especially with the partisanship with the political climate."
Taele faces separate state charges stemming from an alleged robbery incident in November 2025 in El Segundo. He pleaded not guilty to felony possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun, a felony large-capacity-magazine offense, felony second-degree robbery, and misdemeanor carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle at his August 4 arraignment.
Trump visited the Rancho Palos Verdes club for a Republican National Committee fundraiser two days after Taele's arrest. He later told Fox News, "The only thing I get a little solace from is they say only consequential presidents, and I am definitely consequential."
