Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold has been arrested and faces life in prison if convicted of charges including kidnapping and armed robbery. Police allege Arnold acted as the "primary conspirator" in a plot to retaliate against individuals he believed had stolen more than $250,000 worth of property from him and others at a Florida Airbnb in early February.
According to Tampa police, Arnold and six alleged co-conspirators lured three adult males to an apartment, where they were allegedly beaten, held at gunpoint, and pistol-whipped. Their personal property was then stolen before they were ordered to leave. The victims sustained visible injuries, and the incident was reported to the Largo Police Department.
Arnold claims that on February 1, his personal property, including approximately $100,000 in cash, watches, jewelry, designer bags, shoes, and a cell phone, was stolen from an Airbnb he occasionally occupied with friends and the alleged co-conspirators. Two days later, he and three others reported over $250,000 in stolen property to the Largo Police Department.
Investigators concluded that two of the three victims of the alleged February 25th assault were not involved in the initial robbery. However, Arnold is accused of reaching out to two co-conspirators on February 3rd to arrange a meeting with one of the individuals believed to be responsible for the robbery.
Around midnight on February 4th, the three alleged victims visited the apartment. Two co-conspirators, who had been hiding in a closet, reportedly emerged and held the men at gunpoint, striking them and stealing their personal property. One co-conspirator allegedly streamed the altercation to Arnold and two others who were en route to the apartment. Arnold is also accused of giving directions to three individuals in a group chat.
Arnold, along with two additional individuals, allegedly arrived at the apartment about an hour later. The alleged assailants then forced the victims out of the apartment and into their vehicle around 1:40 a.m. ET. The victims subsequently reported the crime to Tampa police.
Six individuals, including two teenage females and four males ranging in age from 19 to 27, were arrested between February 4th and March 21st. Two have reportedly agreed to plea deals.
Arnold, 23, surrendered to authorities on June 24th. His agency, EAG Sports Management, issued a statement asserting his innocence, claiming there is no credible evidence linking him to the allegations and that the prosecution is relying on testimony from convicted felons seeking reduced sentences. Arnold is reportedly confident of vindication in court.
The Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office stated that Arnold "remains a danger to the community" and intends to file a pretrial detention motion to argue for his continued incarceration until trial. Arnold is scheduled for his first court appearance on Thursday.
The Lions organization has acknowledged awareness of the legal situation but declined further comment out of respect for the ongoing legal process. Arnold, a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has started 22 games and appeared in 24 during his two seasons with the team.
