Hosts of MSNBC's Morning Joe expressed jubilation over the Democratic victory in the Texas gubernatorial race, with Joe Scarborough thumping his desk and Mika Brzezinski nodding in agreement.
Scarborough hailed the win as a significant moment, particularly for Hispanic Americans. "Last night, Hispanics spoke back. Hispanic Americans – Americans – Americans, and they used their vote," he declared. He highlighted Gina Hinojosa's defeat of incumbent Republican Governor Greg Abbott, noting that no Democrat had won statewide office in Texas since 1994.
On CNN, Van Jones also celebrated the election results, calling it "the repudiation of Trump-ism that people have been hoping for." Jones went further, likening the Republican Party to the People's Temple cult led by Jim Jones, which famously ended in a mass suicide in Jonestown in 1978. "This is Jonestown for the Republican Party," Jones stated. "They drank the Kool-Aid and they have candidates that are dropping like flies across the country because they did not stand up to this guy."
CNN conservative commentator Scott Jennings appeared visibly displeased with Jones's remarks. The election saw Democrats gain control of the House of Representatives and win Senate seats in states previously considered Republican strongholds, including Kansas, South Carolina, Ohio, Maine, and Iowa. The party also flipped seats in Kentucky, New Jersey, Indiana, and North Carolina.
