Kim Kardashian is facing criticism online after a social media post that appeared to celebrate Democratic successes in the midterm elections, leading some fans to question her allegiance given her friendship with Ivanka Trump.
The reality star and prison reform advocate posted "GOOD MORNING AMERICA" on X the day after the midterms, where Democrats saw favorable results in the House and Senate. The caption, taken out of context by some, was interpreted as a political statement.
Online commenters expressed dismay, with one user on X asking, "Do you think she posted this before or after she checked in on her best friend Ivanka?" Another commenter stated, "Oh wtf lol it’s comical how you lack the ability to read the room." A third quipped, "You look good but we know you MAGA," while another shared a photo of Kardashian with Donald Trump, adding, "We didn't forget, bb."
Kardashian and Ivanka Trump have developed a close relationship in recent years, largely due to Kardashian's advocacy for prison reform. In 2018, Kardashian met with President Trump and his son-in-law Jared Kushner at the White House to discuss the case of Alice Johnson, who had been serving a life sentence for drug offenses. Johnson was later granted clemency and a full presidential pardon. Following the meeting, Kardashian visited Kushner and Ivanka Trump's home in Washington D.C.
This is not the first time Kardashian has faced public scrutiny for her associations. She has also been criticized for her friendships with billionaires Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez. Notably, Kardashian stated in a 2017 interview that she did not support Donald Trump's presidency, humorously suggesting at the time that her young daughter North West could run the country better.
The social media post coincided with Kardashian's promotional tour in New York City for the second season of her Hulu drama "All's Fair." She appeared on "Good Morning America" to discuss the show, stepping out in a striking peach-toned haute couture dress designed by Law Roach. Roach also recently styled Kardashian for an occasion where she tried on Elizabeth Taylor's famed emerald and diamond necklace, an event that also drew backlash.
