Kate Garraway was pictured with her new boyfriend, economic journalist Liam Halligan, at a birthday celebration for her best friend's husband on Friday. The television presenter, 59, shared a photograph of the event on X, formerly Twitter, showing her smiling alongside friends and Halligan, 57.
Garraway wore a white plunging blouse and matching blazer, while Halligan sported a white shirt. The friend whose husband was celebrating posted a message on social media, which Garraway re-shared, expressing birthday wishes to 'James'.
The couple has reportedly been dating for three months, though they have known each other for two decades. Halligan was also acquainted with Garraway's late husband, Derek Draper, who passed away two years ago at the age of 56 following complications from COVID-19.
Recent comments from Halligan suggest a growing connection between the pair. He described a "definite spark" with Garraway, noting that despite their different backgrounds in media, they share a sense of humor and have much in common. He also expressed surprise at the public attention on their relationship, contrasting it with his usual focus on financial matters.
Earlier this year, in March, rumors of their romance began to circulate after they were seen together in Saffron Walden, Essex. Halligan, a father of three, was also seen performing with his band during a night out at a local pub.
Garraway has been single since Draper's death in January 2024, after a four-year battle with illness. In a past interview, Halligan mentioned that both he and Garraway had become single "against our wishes" in recent years, leading to their friendship developing into a romantic relationship.
