A Kansas postal worker has been indicted on charges of stealing mail, including nearly 400 political flyers supporting Republican candidates. Kelly R. Cram, 59, faces one count of unlawful secretion, destruction, and delay of mail, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Kansas.
Federal investigators allege that Cram stole 4,404 pieces of mail beginning in October and stored them in her garage. The indictment specifies that no mailers related to candidates of any other political party were found at her residence. The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General is investigating the incident.
The indictment comes as Kansas voters prepare to decide on a range of candidates in upcoming elections, including races for the U.S. House of Representatives and one of the state's two Senate seats. Incumbent Senator Roger Marshall, a Republican, is running against Democrat Adam Hamilton, and the state's gubernatorial race features Republican Ty Masterson and Democrat Cindy Holscher.
