A Kalitta Air flight carrying a Boeing 777-300 ER experienced a tail strike on the runway Sunday evening while attempting to land at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. local time as Flight 264, which had departed from Brussels Airport in Belgium, was executing a go-around maneuver.
Video footage captured sparks emanating from the rear of the aircraft as its tail made contact with the runway before the plane lifted back into the air. Onlookers could be heard reacting to the event in the video.
According to Kalitta Air’s Chief Operating Officer Heath Nicholl, there were no injuries to the crew. Following the incident, the aircraft was taken out of service for inspection and evaluation upon landing. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has stated that it will investigate the event.
