Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has drawn significant online attention for his participation in a video promoting his girlfriend Katy Perry's latest song. The clip, posted to Perry's Instagram account on Thursday, features the singer and friends dancing to her new track, "Watch It Burn," which was released on June 25.
In the video, Perry, dressed in a red romper, is seen dancing and mouthing the lyrics. Trudeau, 54, joins in the background, dressed in a green T-shirt and khaki pants, appearing to hop to the beat alongside Perry and her companions. Perry captioned the post, "Ancient texts say that if you hop to this song you will get 1,000 years of good luck."
The video quickly gained traction on social media platforms, particularly X, where users shared their reactions to Trudeau's dance moves. Commentary ranged from amusement to criticism, with some users questioning the appropriateness of his actions given his former position as Prime Minister of Canada.
"Former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is promoting Katy Perry's new song... by hopping like a rabbit. 2026 is wild," one user wrote. Another commented, "Bro forgot he was once [prime minister] of a nation. [Oh] how a relationship changes a man, it’s insane."
Other reactions included sentiments such as "Disgraceful that Trudeau is doing this! He is [13] years her senior," and "The concept of the ex prime minister of the second biggest country in the world doing a Katy Perry TikTok challenge." A further comment read, "How unserious is Canada as a country? This man was their Prime Minister, and he’s now a background character in a Katy Perry video."
This public appearance follows recent comments from Perry about her relationship with Trudeau. On the "Unfamous" podcast, she described him as a transformative force in her life, stating, "I have love in my life now that's transformed me." Perry also attributed her personal growth to therapy and transcendental meditation, particularly after the end of her nine-year relationship with Orlando Bloom in June 2025.
Perry and Trudeau made their red carpet debut together at the New York City premiere of the Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour concert film on June 8. At the event, Perry spoke to People magazine about their romance, saying, "I am very in love. Actually, that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that." She further elaborated, "I'm a little bit like a rainbow kite. I fly super high and like, touch the veil, cosmos and sometimes I need to be anchored. So, to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now."
Perry and Bloom confirmed their engagement's end in June 2025. By July of that year, she was seen dining with Trudeau. The couple became Instagram official in December and have since been open about their relationship.
