MSNBC host Joe Scarborough on Wednesday criticized President Donald Trump's immigration policies following the Democratic sweep in Texas' statewide races, attributing the Republican losses to an "inhumane deportation agenda."
Scarborough pointed to the defeat of Republican Ken Paxton by Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico, which he said was significantly driven by Hispanic voters. "For people in the White House that are watching right now — that’s the price of ICE," Scarborough stated on "Morning Joe."
He issued a strong "I told you so" to the Republican Party and the Trump administration, asserting, "We take no happiness in this happening because this happened because you brutalized Hispanics in a way that I told you personally was going to destroy you politically. I told you that."
Scarborough elaborated, "I told you it would destroy you politically, I warned you, ‘You can’t do that.’ Secure the borders, but you can’t rove through neighborhoods terrorizing Americans, beating up Hispanics, killing Americans. This is what happened! Texas happened!"
He also included Sen. Susan Collins, who lost her election, in his criticism, stating, "It’s not just the White House who is responsible for the brutalization of these people, it’s people like [Maine GOP Sen.] Susan Collins, who lost last night, who went along with it."
Trump's immigration policies, including nationwide raids, led to the arrests of thousands of children and the fatal shootings of multiple U.S. citizens by immigration agents, sparking renewed calls to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Scarborough previously called Trump's detainment centers "more extreme" than World War II internment camps and criticized the administration for "gunning down people in the streets."
