The Boston Celtics have reportedly reached an agreement to send Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in a major NBA trade. According to ESPN, the deal would send Brown to Philadelphia in exchange for veteran All-Star Paul George, two first-round draft picks, and two second-round draft picks.
This move comes after a period of intensified trade rumors surrounding Brown. Earlier in the offseason, he was a central figure in discussions for a potential trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks. Following the conclusion of that particular trade scenario, reports indicated that the Celtics were actively pursuing a deal involving Brown, reportedly soliciting offers from eight to 10 teams over the preceding days.
It is understood that Brown himself did not request a trade, suggesting this is a proactive move by the Celtics organization. Brown, a five-time All-Star, was named the NBA Finals MVP two years ago, playing a crucial role in Boston's championship victory. He is currently in the midst of a five-year, $285.39 million contract extension with the Celtics.
The acquisition of Brown provides the 76ers with significant offensive firepower, adding him to a roster that already includes former league MVP Joel Embiid and All-NBA guard Tyrese Maxey. The addition of Brown, who averaged a career-high 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists last season, creates a formidable offensive quartet for Philadelphia. The Celtics, meanwhile, are looking to reconfigure their roster after a disappointing playoff exit. Prior to this reported trade, Boston had already made a move to bolster their frontcourt by signing Mitchell Robinson to a four-year deal.
