Iran will cease exporting oil if the United States continues its "economic war" against the country, Mohsen Rezaee, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said Sunday.
"If the economic war continues, not a single drop of oil will be exported, neither through the Strait of Hormuz nor from anywhere in the Persian Gulf," Rezaee posted on X, formerly Twitter. He added that Iran would consider any country's participation in or support for America's economic pressure campaign as an act of war.
Rezaee's remarks follow President Donald Trump's announcement on his social media platform that his administration is initiating what he described as the "MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY." U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent echoed this sentiment, warning on Sunday that "An economic D-Day is coming for Iran."
Also on Sunday, Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) issued a statement on X indicating that vessels violating navigational protocols in the Strait of Hormuz would face restrictions. These penalties could include fines, detention, or confiscation. The PGSA also outlined steps vessel owners must take to avoid potential issues, including reviewing an online registry of non-compliant vessels.
