Jesher Rivera-Barreto, a 31-year-old woman who identifies as a fitness influencer, has been charged with driving while intoxicated with her two young children in the car. The incident occurred Saturday night on Montauk Highway in Brookhaven, Long Island, resulting in her vehicle overturning and minor injuries to all three occupants.
Prosecutors revealed Monday in Suffolk County court that Rivera-Barreto had a prior Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction from 2020. In the recent crash, she is accused of endangering not only herself but also her 1-year-old son and his 4-year-old brother. Assistant District Attorney Katelynn Flynn stated that the vehicle overturned, and all three occupants had to be removed from the wreckage. Both children were taken to NYU Langone Hospital and subsequently released to their father.
Rivera-Barreto faces charges under Leandra's Law, which pertains to DWI offenses involving children in the vehicle. Additional charges include drunken driving and two counts of child endangerment. Police noted that hours before the crash, Rivera-Barreto had posted photos on social media appearing to show her drinking an espresso martini.
Rivera-Barreto, who has just over 2,000 followers on Facebook, was released on supervised release following her arraignment. She was seen crying outside the courtroom after being embraced by her mother.
