Rep. Ilhan Omar’s campaign expenditure reports for the second quarter reveal nearly $6,500 spent on high-end hotels and a private transportation service. Federal Election Commission filings reviewed by Fox News Digital show the payments were made between April 1 and June 30.
The spending included $2,131.90 to the W New York in Times Square, $1,613.23 to The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood, $1,143 to Blacklane Transportation, $926.80 to the Ace Hotel & Swim Club Palm Springs, and $682.41 to the Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage.
Republican critics have labeled Omar, a member of the progressive "Squad" in the House of Representatives, as a "champagne socialist." The Republican National Committee’s national press secretary, Natalie Baldassarre, stated that Omar "wines and dines at luxury resorts while supporting policies that would make her constituents live in squalor."
The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage is described as a luxury resort overlooking the Coachella Valley and San Jacinto Mountains, offering amenities such as a Club Lounge, concierge service, spa, and multiple pools. The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood features a rooftop pool with views of the Hollywood Sign and downtown Los Angeles. The Ace Hotel & Swim Club Palm Springs is a boutique desert hotel with two pools, a stargazing deck, and a nightclub. W New York in Times Square advertises panoramic city views and a cocktail bar with DJ sets.
Blacklane, the private chauffeur service used by Omar's campaign, offers business and first-class vehicle options from luxury brands. The campaign has spent over $5,000 on this service since Omar joined Congress.
During the same three-month filing period, Omar's campaign reported more than $28,000 in travel expenses and over $23,000 in food, beverage, and catering expenses.
This spending scrutiny comes as Omar has faced other financial questions. Previously, she revised a disclosure that initially listed millions of dollars in assets tied to her and her husband, lowering the amount to at most $125,000. Her campaign also faced scrutiny during the 2020 election cycle over payments made to her husband Tim Mynett’s consulting firm.
Other progressive lawmakers have also faced criticism for campaign spending. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign reportedly spent over $53,000 on luxury hotels in 2025, including expenses related to a concert venue rental. Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has also been accused of "champagne socialism" due to his reported income being 10 times the median income in his state.
