Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., won reelection to her fifth term on Tuesday in Minnesota's deep blue 5th Congressional District. Her victory comes as she faces a federal criminal investigation that includes scrutiny of her immigration status and financial disclosures.

Omar's home in Washington, D.C., was searched on October 12, 2026, by agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Fox News Digital reported that the search was part of an inquiry into whether Omar or her father provided false information on her immigration paperwork when she applied for U.S. citizenship. During the raid, investigators reportedly seized Omar's phone, passport, and computer, and obtained her DNA.

Omar's sister, Sahra Noor, voluntarily spoke with federal investigators following the raid. Court filings from the U.S. Attorney's Office in the District of Columbia referred to Omar as "Ilhan Omar Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Omar," indicating she shares a surname with the man she married in 2009, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Sources later told Fox News Digital that Ilhan Omar is not the congresswoman's "real name."

This renewed investigation into alleged marriage fraud dates back to 2016, when the FBI and DHS initiated a probe during the Obama administration. A source told Fox News Digital that the investigation was closed in 2021 during the Biden administration. Omar has consistently denied any wrongdoing and has not been charged with a crime.

Omar has previously suggested that former President Donald Trump is orchestrating political attacks against her. Her spokesperson, Jackie Rogers, has called the allegations a "baseless, disgusting conspiracy theory" and a "desperate political smear designed to distract from Trump’s failed presidency."

Despite the controversy, Omar campaigned, including online appeals for donations to fund her legal battles. She also appeared with left-wing streamer Hasan Piker in the weeks leading up to the midterm elections.
