An interaction with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in New York City on Thursday resulted in a shooting that left one man injured. The incident occurred in the Marble Hill section of the Bronx, where federal agents fired at a man inside a vehicle. The unidentified individual was transported to a hospital and is reported to be conscious with non-life-threatening injuries. A five-year-old child was also present in the vehicle but was unharmed.

According to law enforcement sources, a team of ICE agents was in the area searching for a man with a criminal record, including a past robbery arrest, a grand larceny conviction, and an open drug case. However, reports indicate that the man who was shot was not the individual ICE agents were seeking.

Video footage from the scene showed police officers removing a man from a silver SUV and placing him in handcuffs. The vehicle appeared to have bullet holes in its rear. A significant police and federal agent presence descended on the location, with officers blocking off the street.

Witnesses described hearing gunshots, followed by a rapid increase in law enforcement activity. One resident reported hearing four shots and then observing numerous police and ICE agents arriving at the scene.

Following the shooting, outraged residents gathered to protest ICE's presence in the neighborhood, chanting slogans and expressing anger. Some protesters reportedly engaged with ICE agents, with one instance involving a group pinning an agent against a wall before being dispersed by NYPD officers. Protesters were also seen attempting to block Homeland Security agents from reaching the scene.

This incident occurred just days after New York City officials, including Mayor Zohran Mamdani, sent a letter to the owners of the Shops at Marble Hill, urging them to prevent federal immigration agents from using a nearby Target parking lot as a staging area for enforcement activities. The lawmakers stated that residents should not have to fear their local shops being used for immigration enforcement.

In a statement Thursday night, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the shooting 'an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation' as he announced he was calling for ICE to end their operations in the Big Apple

Mayor Mamdani strongly condemned the shooting, calling it an "unconscionable and incredibly serious situation" and announced his demand for ICE to cease operations in New York City. He stated his intention to call the President to advocate for an end to all ICE enforcement actions in the city, asserting, "I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities."

Governor Kathy Hochul stated she was briefed on the shooting and expects federal authorities to provide a "full and transparent accounting of the circumstances surrounding this incident." Congressman Adriano Espaillat, who was at the scene, demanded that all body camera footage and evidence be preserved and called for a full investigation and accountability, labeling ICE as a "rogue agency."

The New York City Council Progressive Caucus expressed outrage, calling the shooting a "terrifying, violent reminder of the immediate danger that the Trump regime poses to our city and our immigrant community" and reiterated calls to abolish ICE.
