Harmeet Dhillon has resigned from her position as the assistant attorney general for civil rights at the Department of Justice, sources told Fox News. Dhillon, who began her role in April 2025, led the Civil Rights Division.
Her departure comes after the Republican Party lost control of the House and Senate in the recent midterm elections. Prior to her resignation, Dhillon defended the Trump administration's investigation into noncitizen voters. In an interview, she addressed concerns about the purpose of such investigations, stating that the distrust in the election system already exists and that these cases are being prosecuted with increased volume. She also noted that the Biden administration has prosecuted individuals for noncitizen voting.
