Grief Grips Village After Three-Year-Old Found Deceased in Pond

Dozens of floral tributes and toys have been left at a playground in Brantham, Suffolk, where three-year-old Noah Woods was last seen alive. The community is mourning the loss after police announced the discovery of a child's body in a pond less than 350 yards from the play area.

Among the more than 100 bouquets were messages, teddy bears, model cars, and Bluey toys, a nod to one of the youngster's favorite characters. One message read, "Little Noah, May you rest in eternal peace. You will remain in the hearts of the village and all your friends forever. Shine bright XX." Another stated, "We didn't know you but we helped to find you. RIP little man."

Noah disappeared on Tuesday afternoon around 2:37 PM after running from the under-fives playground in Merriam Close. A relative accompanying him was unable to catch him as he headed down an alleyway towards woodland and a large pond. The vulnerable youngster was described as non-verbal, partially deaf, and undergoing tests for autism.

A large-scale search operation involving hundreds of villagers, police, Coastguards, and firefighters commenced Tuesday night and continued into Wednesday. Police estimated that approximately 1,300 members of the public joined the search for Noah, who had curly ginger hair and was wearing a white Bluey T-shirt. The search efforts were coordinated by Brantham parish council, utilizing the village hall and leisure center as hubs.

The search concluded tragically on Wednesday afternoon when police divers recovered a body from Decoy Pond. The pond, approximately 150 yards across, is situated on a track connected to the alleyway Noah ran down, around 300 yards from the playground.

Suffolk Police confirmed that Noah's family had been informed of the discovery, though formal identification was pending. A file was expected to be passed to the coroner. The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious. Volunteers who had been hoping for Noah's safe return were devastated by the news, with some seen in tears as the announcement was made.

Candles were also placed at the scene beside the playground after darkness fell on Wednesday evening.
