Rep. Ashley Hinson, a Republican representing Iowa in the Senate, has drawn criticism for her recent change in position regarding the war in Iran. Hinson, who is currently campaigning for a Senate seat, posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, advocating for an end to the conflict and stating that Iowans "shouldn’t have to foot the bill at the pump or the checkout line for the war in Iran."

This statement has led to accusations of hypocrisy, as critics pointed out that Hinson had previously voted against resolutions aimed at ending the war. Her opponent in the Senate race, Josh Turek, highlighted this, stating, "It’s easy to send a tweet, but when you had a chance to vote to end this war, you chose not to. You voted seven times to continue it, including just last week."

Ryan Grim, executive editor of The Intercept, shared a screenshot of Hinson's X post and noted her previous votes against ending the war. Podcaster Tim Miller also commented on the timing of Hinson's statement, observing that Congress is in recess until after the November election, making it impossible for her to take immediate action on her stated proposals.

The war in Iran has reportedly cost nearly $40 billion since its inception in late February and has been linked to increased gasoline prices. Hinson's shift in stance comes as she is trailing in Senate race polls.

Mike Rogers, a Republican Senate candidate in Michigan, has also recently released an advertisement calling for an end to the war with Iran.
