Actress Glenn Close, 79, has revealed that her recent use of a cane is due to a hip replacement surgery. Close shared the news in an Instagram video on Tuesday, addressing the concern her mobility aid had caused.
"I wanted to just hop on and thank you for all of your love, and to explain why I have a cane," Close stated in the video. "I have a cane because I have had a complete hip replacement."
Close explained that she underwent the procedure after discovering her left hip was in poor condition. She expressed a desire to remain mobile and ready for future projects, stating, "My whole thing right now is to keep myself in running order so that I can really leap into whatever challenges come my way."
The three-time Emmy Award winner assured her followers that her reliance on the cane would be temporary. She mentioned upcoming appearances in London for the premiere of "Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" and in New York for the second season premiere of "All’s Fair."
"So, I hope to be fully present there, and maybe not running around going up mountains, but at least my old self," she said. "So, love to everyone. Don’t worry. I’m feeling great. I have my wonderful, wonderful family around me, and I look forward to all the adventures coming, so love to everyone."
In the caption accompanying the video, Close referred to it as a "needed explanation" and extended gratitude to her doctor at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York for her "new hip." She was recently photographed using a cane on the red carpet at the NewFest film festival premiere of "La Bola Negra."
Close is scheduled to receive an honorary Oscar at the 17th Governors Awards in Hollywood next month.
