The San Francisco Giants' attempt at a second-half reset faltered over the weekend as they dropped a series to the Seattle Mariners, a team they had recently defeated. The Giants lost Sunday's game 6-3, marking a second consecutive defeat and a dispiriting end to the series.

Robbie Ray, the Giants' starting pitcher, was removed in the fifth inning. The team's struggles were compounded by two errors from Casey Schmitt and a managerial decision that led to a decisive pinch-hit home run for the Mariners' Luke Raley. Raley's home run, his 15th of the season, came off pitcher Adrian Houser, who had entered the game in the sixth inning with the score tied. Houser, known for giving up home runs, allowed two long balls in two innings, ultimately putting the game out of reach for the Giants.

Earlier in the game, Bryce Eldridge hit his second home run of the series in the first inning, and Heliot Ramos drove in Schmitt to give the Giants an early 2-0 lead. Seattle tied the score in the fourth with two unearned runs. The Giants responded in the fifth when Luis Arraez doubled home Willy Adames, retaking a 3-2 advantage. However, the lead was short-lived, mirroring the previous day's outcome.

Ray's outing, his shortest since May, came at a critical time with the Aug. 3 trade deadline approaching. He threw 86 pitches before being lifted for Sam Hentges after surrendering his sixth and seventh hits of the game. The Mariners' offensive momentum continued when Cole Young hit a two-run home run in the following inning.

Eldridge has been a bright spot for the Giants, hitting safely in six of his past seven games with three home runs and a 1.172 OPS in that stretch. He hit his first home run of the second half in Friday's win and reached base multiple times in Saturday's loss.

Conversely, Arraez has experienced an uncharacteristic start to the second half. While he continues to hit, he committed his fifth error of the season on Saturday and struck out twice in his first two at-bats on Sunday against Mariners pitcher Logan Gilbert. It had been more than two years since Arraez last struck out multiple times in a single game. He ended his hitless streak with a double in the fifth inning.

The Giants are set to travel to Kansas City to begin a series against the Royals on Monday night. The Royals are coming off a significant loss to the Padres.
