George and Amal Clooney have evacuated their home in southern France due to wildfires that are currently threatening the region. The couple and their nine-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, left their estate in Brignoles, located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.

In a letter to Brignoles mayor Didier Brémond, George Clooney expressed hope for the safety of the town's residents and pledged support for the community's recovery. "At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment," Clooney wrote. "As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise 2 things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole. We love Brignoles and our friends who live there."

The fires threatening Brignoles are part of a larger pattern of wildfires affecting southern Europe. The European Union's emergency response chief has warned that the continent could face widespread infernos in the coming days, with Greece, Italy, and Central Europe expected to experience the highest wildfire risk. High temperatures, dry air, wind, and a lack of rain are contributing factors to the rapid spread of these fires.

More than 2,200 firefighters are battling the blazes in France, supported by 20 aircraft. The wildfires in southern France have reportedly grown to four times the size of Paris. As of Tuesday, over 330,000 people have been forced to evacuate across France and Spain due to the fires. Tragically, three firefighters have died in Greece while combating blazes there.

The Clooneys purchased their estate near Brignoles in 2021. The couple, who were married in 2014, also own properties in Italy and the United Kingdom, among other locations. George Clooney became a French citizen in 2025. He has previously expressed admiration for French culture and privacy laws.
