Former White House attorney Ty Cobb has issued a stark warning regarding former President Donald Trump's alleged efforts to influence upcoming elections, stating that "those forces are already on the field." Cobb's comments, made during a recent appearance on MS NOW, followed the termination of the last three members of the bipartisan Election Assistance Commission (EAC).
Cobb described the disbanding of the EAC as a deliberate strategy by Trump to "take over part of the referee role for the elections." While acknowledging the EAC is not the most significant federal agency, he emphasized its crucial role in providing financial aid, training, and assistance to state election officials preparing for federal elections. The commission also has oversight over certain forms required for states to receive federal funds for election administration.
He urged observers to adopt a broad perspective to understand the extent to which the electoral process has become "unbalanced." According to Cobb, Trump is purportedly leveraging "hundreds of millions of taxpayer money" and enlisting various federal agencies, including ICE and the National Guard, to install "election deniers" throughout government positions. These individuals, he suggests, are intended to contest election outcomes.
Cobb expressed concern that while traditional mechanisms and the federal court system have historically upheld the rule of law, they may face significant challenges. He stated, "I don’t think we can be sanguine about the elections — because he is stacking every card in the deck that he can get his hands on."
