Dashcam video released by the Florida Highway Patrol captured a state trooper accelerating through a street takeover that had halted traffic on Interstate 75, ultimately leading to a pursuit reaching speeds of 140 mph. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday near mile marker 266 in Thonotosassa.

Upon arriving at the scene, the trooper encountered hundreds of vehicles obstructing all northbound lanes of the interstate. The footage shows individuals running between cars as the trooper maneuvered through the gridlock. The pursuit began after the trooper accelerated after a green BMW, identified as being driven by 25-year-old Yulian Lugo.

Authorities reported that Lugo reached speeds of approximately 140 mph, double the posted speed limit, before exiting the interstate. The chase continued into a residential neighborhood, where Lugo eventually stopped his vehicle. He was arrested and charged with aggravated fleeing to elude and participating in a street takeover, both felony offenses.

Three passengers in the BMW, a 24-year-old and two 18-year-olds, were also arrested and charged with misdemeanor highway racing. All four individuals were booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.

Investigators stated that the street takeover involved hundreds of vehicles blocking I-75 while participants allegedly performed stunts. Many vehicles began to disperse as law enforcement arrived, prompting Lugo's alleged flight.

This incident is the latest in a series of street takeover-related events that have prompted increased law enforcement attention in Florida. In June, the St. Augustine Beach Police Department reported thwarting a planned takeover. Earlier this year, Orlando police released video of a large group on e-bikes disrupting traffic and blocking an ambulance.
