Five ducklings have hatched after their eggs were rescued from a nest at a sewage treatment works in Totnes, England. The nest, resting on floating debris, was at risk of toppling and being destroyed.
Blakesley, a catchment technician with South West Water, discovered the nest while preparing for maintenance work. Recognizing the urgency, he and his team carefully recovered all seven eggs. Blakesley took the eggs home to incubate them.
The five surviving ducklings are reportedly growing well and have begun swimming in a paddling pool. Blakesley's daughter has been involved in their care, with the family repurposing a playhouse to accommodate them during warmer weather. The plan is to move them to a larger indoor enclosure as they grow, and eventually to an outdoor coop near a stream and pond on their property.
