The fiancée of an Arizona man accused of recruiting a stranger to sexually assault her has defended her partner in court, asserting he had no involvement in the alleged scheme. Zarian Dyer, 23, was arrested on suspicion of orchestrating an attack on his fiancée, Bella Torres, by Adrian Ayala, 20.
Torres stated in court that Dyer was merely out buying groceries when Ayala attacked her. According to court documents, Torres's security sensor alerted her to an opening door, and she encountered Ayala instead of her fiancé. Ayala allegedly asked to use the bathroom, and when Torres refused, he forced his way inside and attacked her and their young daughter.
Torres managed to fight off Ayala and pushed him into the driveway. It was then, according to charging documents, that Ayala claimed Dyer had set up the assault, stating, "your boyfriend told me you’d be into this." Torres reported asking Ayala for Dyer's name, but he did not respond.
Investigators reportedly uncovered Reddit messages allegedly sent by Dyer to Ayala. One message urged Ayala to hurry, stating the sender was trying to "fake kill time" at the grocery store. Another message from Ayala, sent a week prior, asked if Torres would be "in on" the plan, to which the user replied, "nope."
Ayala's attorney argued that his client was brought to the house by Dyer for a "role-play scenario" and believed he had the victim's consent. Dyer faces charges including aggravated assault, sexual abuse, attempted sexual assault, kidnapping, and conspiracy. Ayala has been charged with kidnapping, sexual abuse, burglary, and aggravated assault.
