An Amber Alert has been issued for 14-year-old Diana Galvez Ortega and her father, Sergio Galvez Perez, 38, as authorities intensify their search. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Perez is the biological father of both Ortega and the newborn, identified as Angelito.
The infant was discovered deceased on August 1 on the side of a road near Moss Landing, with his umbilical cord still attached and showing signs of trauma. Investigators believe Perez is on the run with Ortega, who is accused of murdering the baby. Her safety and well-being are considered a priority.
Perez is wanted for numerous felony violations related to Ortega, who was allegedly impregnated by him at age 13. He faces charges including incest and lewd acts on a minor. The sheriff’s office stated that their immediate priority is locating Ortega to ensure her safety and provide any necessary medical care.
Flock camera footage provided a breakthrough in the case, identifying a vehicle in which Ortega and Perez were traveling together. Prior to this, investigators lacked information about a vehicle Diana may have been using and could not confirm if she and Perez were together. The vehicle, registered to Perez and his wife, Ofelia Garcia Ortega, was subsequently located. Ofelia Garcia Ortega has been arrested and charged with child endangerment.
Perez is described as an Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Ortega is described as approximately 4 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 100 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
The public is urged to call 911 immediately if they spot Perez or Ortega and to not approach them. The investigation is ongoing.
