A fatal collision between a train and a van has prompted an investigation by British Transport Police (BTP). The incident occurred Saturday afternoon near Burscough, Lancashire, resulting in the death of the van driver at the scene.

Passengers on the train were required to remain on board for at least two hours following the crash before being assisted to safety by emergency services. One passenger, who identified herself as Cassidy, described the experience as one that left her family "lucky to be alive." She reported that her daughter sustained a minor injury from broken glass, which was fortunately only a surface wound. Cassidy also noted that emergency services provided counseling to those affected.

Two individuals received medical treatment for injuries at the scene. The BTP has stated that enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision. Images from the scene show emergency vehicles present in a field adjacent to the railway line, with the train stopped on the tracks. The door to the driver's cab appeared to be dislodged from its hinges.
