The Justice Department has renewed its effort to have a federal judge dismiss former Trump ally Steve Bannon's conviction for criminal contempt of Congress. Bannon was found guilty in 2022 of defying a subpoena from the House Select Committee that investigated the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Bannon served four months in prison in 2024 after his conviction. The Department of Justice's latest filing seeks to overturn this conviction.
