Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has retained the legal services of Levi McCathern’s firm to represent him in a misdemeanor assault case stemming from a parking lot altercation on Oct. 25.

Bryant is charged with assault by contact after allegedly slapping a phone out of the hand of 19-year-old Noah Reyes. According to the Southlake Police Department, Bryant was the only individual cited after officers investigated the incident outside a Southlake restaurant. Reyes had reportedly been driving erratically around Bryant shortly before the dispute.

Bryant, who turned 38 on Wednesday, told Outkick that Reyes threatened him first and that he only slapped the phone away in self-defense. Reyes, however, told the California Post that Bryant was the aggressor.

McCathern, Bryant's attorney, has a notable history representing high-profile athletes in legal matters. He is currently representing Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua in a civil case and previously represented Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in an extortion lawsuit and Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin in a case involving a misconduct accuser.

Bryant is scheduled for a court hearing in the case on December 2.
