Following the Democratic Party's midterm election gains, Representative Robert Garcia, the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, has stated that no member of the Trump family will be exempt from potential investigations. Garcia, a California congressman, issued a warning for President Trump to 'lawyer up,' signaling his intent to scrutinize the family's business dealings and alleged corrupt practices.

Garcia cited specific areas of interest, including Donald Trump Jr.'s attendance at an event reportedly funded by a Russian oligarch, the sons' involvement on company boards receiving Pentagon contracts, and Jared Kushner's financial ties to Saudi Arabia. He also mentioned potential investigations into family cryptocurrency ventures and the funding of the White House ballroom. Garcia emphasized that these probes are crucial for accountability, asserting that the alleged corruption has negatively impacted American families struggling with rising costs for essentials like gas and groceries.

Democrats are set to assume control of House committees in January, which will grant them subpoena power to demand documents and allocate funds for investigations. Garcia indicated that hearings will be held to pursue justice, framing accountability as a key component of the Democratic platform concerning affordability.

A White House official pushed back, stating that the administration still controls federal government powers and warning that Democrats pursuing investigations would be working against the American people. White House spokesperson Lauren Bis added that the President remains committed to working with anyone to deliver victories for Americans and that Democrats pursuing 'sham investigations' would be choosing to work against the public.

Despite the White House's stance, Garcia and other leading Democrats have vowed to initiate a broad range of investigations into the President and his family from day one. The scope of these potential probes may extend to the Epstein investigation and even Elon Musk's business dealings and role in cryptocurrency, according to a Democratic congressional official. Trump has reportedly prepared preemptive pardons for associates who might be targeted.
