Delta Air Lines is facing a lawsuit from 20 passengers who claim severe turbulence on a July 30, 2025, flight from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam resulted in 25 people requiring hospital treatment. The flight, en route to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport from Salt Lake City International Airport, encountered extreme turbulence over Wyoming.

Passengers described the incident as "2.5 minutes of terror," during which people, food, and personal items were reportedly thrown through the cabin. The lawsuit, filed in Utah's 3rd District Court, alleges that the pilots "recklessly flew" the aircraft close to a thunderstorm, despite reported warnings about the weather. It further claims the seatbelt sign was off and beverage service was underway at the time of the severe upset.

The flight was diverted to Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, where 25 individuals received medical attention. Injuries reported include head and spinal trauma, broken bones, and concussions. The lawsuit states that air traffic control had approved a route deviation, but the crew continued on its planned path.

A Delta Air Lines spokesperson stated that the company is unable to comment on active litigation that is currently under NTSB investigation. The incident involved Delta Flight 56.
