CrossCountry services are expected to return to a full schedule on Monday after a major disruption caused by a power cut.
National Rail issued an update on Sunday evening stating that services between Peterborough, Cambridge, and Stansted Airport would be running, and an hourly train service from Birmingham New Street to Leicester and Derby had resumed.
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander expressed pleasure that some trains were set to operate on Sunday night, with a full timetable anticipated for the following day. She thanked engineers for their efforts to minimize disruption and highlighted the government's commitment to improving network reliability through the establishment of Great British Railways and the nationalization of services, including Cross Country, next year.
The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) has called for a review of railway operational control centers to prevent future disruptions from power outages. RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey stated that passengers and rail workers should not face repeated travel chaos due to insufficient backup systems.
CrossCountry's stated priority is restoring normal service as closely as possible.
