A large bull caused traffic chaos on Highway 35 in San Mateo County, California, for several hours Tuesday night before a cowboy with 35 years of experience was called in to safely wrangle the animal.
The runaway bovine became a significant traffic hazard, forcing California Highway Patrol officers and San Mateo County Sheriff's Office deputies to manage the situation. Initial attempts to lasso the bull were unsuccessful.
Authorities contacted Samuel Ramos Palomino, a foreman at Sea Horse Ranch, shortly after midnight. Palomino, despite having to report for work a few hours later, responded to the call. He arrived with his truck and livestock trailer and worked with law enforcement to pursue the bull for several miles.
Palomino eventually secured the bull using his expertise and loaded it into his trailer. He then provided a safe location for the animal until it could be returned home at daybreak. The incident concluded with Palomino having just over 90 minutes before his workday began.
The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office credited Palomino with potentially preventing a serious accident and ensuring the safety of motorists, first responders, and the bull itself. Officials expressed gratitude for his willingness to help, stating that public safety is a partnership and that Palomino's actions exemplified extraordinary community assistance.
It remains unclear how the bull escaped or who its owner is. For his efforts, Palomino was later met by Coastside Patrol Bureau Captain Allen and Half Moon Bay City Manager to receive their thanks.
