Nino Mangione, a Republican and the cousin of admitted UnitedHealthcare CEO assassin Luigi Mangione, has narrowly won a local election for Baltimore County Council’s District 5. He defeated Democrat Shawn McIntosh by a four-point margin.
Mangione ran on a platform emphasizing support for law enforcement and stricter penalties for criminals. "Violent offenders should be made to serve maximum penalties, showing repeat offenders that their actions will no longer be tolerated," according to a statement on his campaign website.
Prior to this election, Nino Mangione served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2019 to 2026. He also hosts a conservative talk radio show, "The Right Side," on WCBM, a local Baltimore station.
His cousin, Luigi Mangione, pleaded guilty in August to the December 2024 assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Luigi Mangione admitted in Manhattan Criminal Court to shooting Thompson, who was married with two children. Following his cousin's arrest, Nino Mangione stated that the family was "shocked and devastated" and offered condolences to Thompson's family.
