A cat that went missing from its home in Sunderland nearly a year ago has been found 100 miles away in Leeds. The ginger cat, known as Ginge, was discovered by Lucy Roche, a volunteer branch leader for Cat Action Trust 1977, while she was caring for a feral colony in Garforth.

Roche noticed that Ginge was unusually tame for a cat living in a feral colony and decided to take him to a veterinarian. A microchip scan revealed his identity and allowed Roche to contact his owner in Sunderland. The owner was reportedly overjoyed and disbelieving upon hearing the news.

Cat Action Trust 1977 volunteers regularly visit feral cat colonies in the Leeds area to provide food, water, and shelter. The charity also facilitates veterinary care, including neutering, for these cats. If a feral colony's environment is deemed unsafe, the charity works to rehome the cats, either to new owners or to rural settings such as farms.
