A 65-year-old California woman is accused of fatally striking her husband with a flagpole during an alleged assault at their Palm Desert home. Authorities have identified the suspect as Vicky Kim, who faces charges of murder.
The incident occurred on September 4 at a condominium complex in Palm Desert. Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting “unknown trouble” at the Gateway Drive address around 9:45 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a victim with severe injuries consistent with a physical assault. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kim was arrested at the residence and subsequently booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of murder. Court documents indicate that Kim allegedly “inflicted great bodily harm” on her husband. The Enclave, where the incident took place, is described as a luxury residential community featuring amenities such as fitness centers and swimming pools.
According to a spokesperson for the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, Kim had prior domestic violence cases involving her husband. In January of the same year, her office had charged Kim with a felony and obtained criminal protective orders, with intentions to prosecute her for alleged crimes against her husband.
Kim's past also includes a 2007 case in Hawaii, where she was reportedly charged with first-degree terroristic threatening after allegedly making a bomb threat at Keahole International Airport on the Big Island. She was scheduled for arraignment on the current charges on Friday.
