Andrea Urmston and Dave Green developed a close bond, unaware they were brother and sister. Green had known he was adopted since he was 10, having been shown adoption paperwork by his adoptive parents, and described his childhood as happy with no desire to search for his birth mother. Urmston, however, had long harbored a wish to find her brother.
Their reunion has been a profound experience for both. "I went from having really not a lot of positivity in my life at the time, to finding out that my best friend was my sister," Green said. Urmston expressed that finding her birth mother and, by extension, her brother, fulfilled a lifelong promise. She recalled telling her birth mother, "I asked if we could go and get him back... so I promised her that I would find him for her one day."
Their birth mother recently passed away, but both siblings are glad she was able to reunite with Green. "She was so desperate to find you to make sure you'd had a really good life," Urmston told Green. A photograph of Green as a baby, sent by his adoptive parents to his birth mother shortly after his adoption, was displayed in both families' homes.
Urmston described her childhood as difficult due to her parents' separation, adding to the challenge of knowing her brother was out there but his location was unknown. Now living together in Kidsgrove, Staffordshire, they consider their newfound family connection a "lottery win."
