The Chicago Bears began their season with a record-setting offensive explosion, scoring 59 points in a dominant victory over the Carolina Panthers. The win highlighted the team's considerable offensive depth, as multiple key targets had statistically quiet days.

Colston Loveland was shut out, Rome Odunze recorded only two receptions, and Luther Burden lost an early fumble, yet these players, typically among the Bears' top receivers, did not hinder the team's scoring prowess. Wide receiver Jahdae Walker noted the team's array of weapons, stating, "We got a lot of weapons, so I mean, the ball go to whoever. We all are capable of making plays and that just shows (the depth) in our receiver and offensive rooms."

Walker himself contributed one of quarterback Caleb Williams' two touchdown passes, a 1-yard reception in the fourth quarter. Williams also added 65 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. The Bears accumulated 291 rushing yards in the game, marking the highest-scoring opener in franchise history.

Coach Ben Johnson expressed encouragement regarding the running game's current state, comparing it favorably to the previous year's starting point. "It’s further along right now than where we started a year ago in terms of that running game,” Johnson said. “I knew it was going to take a minute. To see our starting point this year and what we can build off of, it’s really encouraging."

Loveland, Odunze, and Burden were central figures in the Bears' 11-6 record and NFC North title win last season. Loveland had 58 catches for 713 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie tight end. Burden posted 47 catches for 652 yards and two touchdowns, while Odunze had 44 receptions for 661 yards and six touchdowns in his second NFL season.

In the season opener, Loveland had no catches. Odunze made a 47-yard reception in the first quarter but added only 5 yards thereafter. Burden, after his early fumble, finished with five receptions for 63 yards.

Kalif Raymond, in his Bears debut, made a significant impact with a team-high eight receptions for 84 yards. The veteran receiver, signed as a free agent, was targeted nine times, suggesting a developing rapport with Williams. At 32, Raymond could play a crucial role, especially as opponents focus on Odunze and Burden.

Johnson also emphasized the team's effectiveness in downfield blocking, particularly from receivers and tight ends. This contributed to four runs of 25 or more yards, matching the team's total from the entire previous season.

Conversely, the Bears' defense showed potential concerns. The team recorded only two sacks, while Carolina's Bryce Young passed for 361 yards and three touchdowns. The Panthers also achieved 125 rushing yards on 22 attempts.

Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson faced difficulties, being beaten for a 51-yard touchdown reception and missing a tackle on another late touchdown. However, Johnson indicated that despite injuries to left tackle Braxton Jones and Stevenson, the team was "in pretty good shape" coming out of the game.

The Bears rushed for six touchdowns against the Panthers, tying a record for the most in a season opener, previously achieved by the 1920 Detroit Heralds, 1920 Rock Island Independents, and 1922 Canton Bulldogs.

Chicago will host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The Bears split their series with the Vikings last season, losing 27-24 in Week 1 and winning 19-17 in their second matchup.
