BBC News experienced an unfortunate on-air gaffe during its coverage of the US Midterm Elections when the word "erections" was inadvertently broadcast. The incident occurred when a reflection of the words "US MIDTERM ELECTIONS" on a polished studio desk appeared as "US MIDTERM ERECTIONS" during a segment leading up to election day.

TV critic Scott Bryan was among the first to notice the blunder, sharing it on X with the comment, "BBC errrr… you might want to check the reflection." The mistake quickly drew humorous reactions online, with viewers posting jokes such as, "If the reflection lasts more than four hours, call a doctor." Another quipped, "You raise an important point."

The situation was later rectified, with a sheaf of papers placed on the desk to obscure the reflection. Bryan noted this change on X, humorously suggesting, "I'm sure the papers being there is just a coincidence." A handily placed sheaf of papers conceals the reflection on the desk.

The US Midterm Elections themselves saw significant results, with Democrats securing control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. These outcomes represented a substantial shift, with several traditionally Republican states electing Democratic representatives and senators, contributing to what was described as a "blue tsunami."
