Republicans may already be facing a sealed fate in the upcoming midterm elections, with a prominent political analyst warning that former President Donald Trump's influence is driving a significant negative trend. Charlie Cook, founder of the Cook Political Report, stated that while voters are expressing anger over rising prices and the economic impacts of past tariffs, the sentiment is largely anti-Trump rather than pro-Democrat.

"It isn’t pro-Democrat. It’s anti-Trump, basically, and Republicans that have been supportive of the president," Cook told ABC News, describing the potential outcome not as a "blue wave" but as a "red undertow."

Cook predicted that this dynamic could create an election "riptide" that significantly impacts Republican candidates. He noted that while control of the House has been considered largely decided for some time, the Senate, which was not previously expected to flip, is now a realistic possibility for Democrats.

Based on his analysis, Cook anticipates that Democrats could gain 20 or more seats in the House and potentially four in the Senate, leading to their control of both chambers. However, he cautioned that some of these Senate races are expected to be very close.
