The public feud between Olympic swimmer Adam Ramsay-Peaty and his estranged family has intensified following his comments at the Commonwealth Games, where he alluded to personal struggles impacting his performance.

Peaty, who won a bronze medal in his specialist event, suggested that difficulties he had experienced this year contributed to his performance. In response, a family member stated that the hurt caused by a medal does not compare to the pain he has inflicted on his mother. "The hurt you feel over a medal does not compare to the hurt your mother felt when she said she did not want to be on this planet any more," the relative said, speaking anonymously to the Daily Mail.

The family source accused Peaty of engaging in a "blame game" and urged him to "take accountability of your own actions for once Adam instead of blaming us." The source detailed instances of hurt, including Peaty allegedly stopping his mother from seeing her grandson and preventing her from attending his wedding.

These Commonwealth Games mark the first major event where Peaty's parents have not been present to support him, as they have reportedly been banned from attending. Peaty was accompanied at the games by his wife, Holly Ramsay, who is pregnant with their first child. Their relationship is suggested to be a cause of the fallout with his wider family.

Peaty, 31, had aimed for gold in the 100m breaststroke but finished third behind Australia's Sam Williamson and Jersey's Filip Nowacki. Following his race, a visibly upset Peaty acknowledged the family feud, stating that the fallout "has taken its toll." He described his performance as not "excellence" and expressed that he felt he "deserve[d] more."

The conflict reportedly stems from 2024 when Peaty and Ramsay did not invite several members of the Peaty family to their engagement party and wedding. Peaty's mother, Caroline, who previously supported his training, was also not invited to Ramsay's hen do.

Peaty previously addressed the feud on Instagram, stating there are "two sides to every story." He emphasized the importance of showing emotion and suggested that external "rubbish people write online" needed to be ignored. He also noted the difficult decisions he had to make to focus on his career, prioritizing his role as a father above medal outcomes.

Social media users have criticized Peaty's remarks, with some accusing him of behaving "disgracefully" and urging him to remember the sacrifices his family made. Comments suggested that he was choosing not to reconcile with his parents and that his actions might lead to future regret.
