Jared Young's ninth-inning RBI single against Grant Taylor tied the game for the New York Mets on Sunday, but the Chicago White Sox ultimately secured a 2-1 victory with a walk-off home run.

Tristan Peters hit a walk-off homer against Mets pitcher Kodai Senga in the bottom of the ninth to clinch the win for Chicago. Young, who began the day on the bench, delivered a clutch hit that appeared to send the game into extra innings.

"He's always been a good hitter," interim manager Andy Green said. "This is the first time he's gotten any runway in the big leagues, and he's been really good. Those are the type of at-bats you have been getting. That's a legit closer that has really good stuff and another big swing from him."

Young has an .871 OPS in August and has provided stability at first base for the Mets this season. His hit was the biggest for the team on Sunday, but the offense could not capitalize further. Francisco Alvarez and A.J. Ewing struck out to end the game, leaving the go-ahead run in scoring position.

Alvarez's strikeouts continued a recent slump, with 29 strikeouts in his last 58 at-bats. Young was not in the starting lineup as Green opted for Eric Wagaman at first base, but Wagaman was removed after one plate appearance. Bo Bichette's four at-bats without a hit snapped his on-base streak at 12 games.

The Mets are 17-16 in interleague play this season and will face the NL Central-leading Brewers at Citi Field starting Tuesday. Following the Brewers series, they are scheduled to play the Astros and then the AL East-leading Rays.
