The New York Yankees' struggles in extra innings continued as they lost to the Chicago White Sox 2-1 on a bases-loaded walk in the 11th inning on Thursday. This marks the second consecutive day the Yankees have been defeated in extra innings by the White Sox.
Fernando Cruz issued a four-pitch walk to Tristan Peters to force in the winning run, concluding a frustrating afternoon for the Yankees. They managed to score only one run despite going 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position and leaving 11 runners on base.
The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 10th inning when Grisham singled home the automatic runner. However, reliever Angel Chivilli surrendered the lead in the bottom of the frame, allowing an RBI single to Andrew Benintendi to tie the game.
Cruz entered the game in the 10th and helped escape a bases-loaded jam by inducing a double play, sending the game to the 11th. After the Yankees failed to score in the top of the 11th, the White Sox loaded the bases against Cruz, who ultimately walked in the decisive run.
Fernando Cruz started the 11th by intentionally walking Munetaka Murakami and striking out Miguel Vargas. Ben Rice then committed an error on a ground ball, loading the bases. After Cruz struck out Colson Montgomery, he walked Peters to end the game.

The Yankees are now 1-8 in extra-inning games this season. They faced pitching difficulties as David Bednar was apparently unavailable for the second straight day, having pitched in four of the last six games.
Offensively, the Yankees had several miscues. Jasson Domínguez was tagged out at third base after oversliding the bag on what could have been a triple in the sixth inning. In the seventh, Jazz Chisholm Jr. was picked off first base with two outs.
Chisholm later left the game in the 11th inning with what appeared to be a right leg injury, after hobbling on a groundout two innings prior.
