The New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels game was delayed in the top of the sixth inning Wednesday night when Yankees batter Ben Rice hit a foul ball that struck a photographer in the head.
The incident occurred after Rice roped a line-drive foul ball into the first base camera well. The Yankees' medical staff, including director of sports medicine and rehab Mike Schuck and head trainer Tim Lentych, immediately attended to the photographer.
Following a delay of approximately 10 minutes, the photographer, wearing a neck brace, walked under his own power to a medical cart. Rice met him at the cart to shake his hand before the photographer was driven from the field. The ball off Rice’s bat was recorded at 79.5 mph.
After the cart departed, pitcher Reid Detmers threw warmup pitches, and the game resumed. Rice ultimately flew out to center field on the ninth pitch of his at-bat.
