The upcoming World Cup is poised to dramatically reshape the soccer landscape in the United States, according to former Major League Soccer player Sebastien Le Toux. The Frenchman, who played most of his career in MLS, particularly with the Philadelphia Union, since arriving in 2007, sees the global tournament as a catalyst for growth.

Le Toux expressed optimism that France, a tournament favorite, could lead this transformation. "Football is like a religion in France," he stated. "France has a very strong squad and a lot of talent. Other countries are scared of that." He noted France's strong start in the tournament, advancing from the group stage with three consecutive wins.

Kylian Mbappe is identified as the team's star player, but Le Toux also highlighted Michael Olise as an emerging talent who could play a crucial role for France. "I think Michael Olise is someone people don’t know enough about," Le Toux said. "He’s had an amazing year with his club, Bayern Munich, and finished the season really well. You can see he's in great form."

Beyond the French team, Le Toux is hopeful for the U.S. national team's success, emphasizing its ability to unite people. "When your national team succeeds it brings people together," he said. "Soccer isn't the number one sport in the U.S., but having millions of fans from all over the world come here lets Americans experience how important the game is globally."

He observed a significant evolution in MLS since his arrival. The league has expanded from about 13 teams to nearly 30, with increased television rights, higher franchise values, and greater owner commitment. Le Toux also noted the developing tradition of soccer fandom in the U.S., where young fans are now bringing their own children to games, building lifelong supporters over time.

Le Toux, who retired from playing in 2018 and is now involved in coaching, also serves as an ambassador for the muscle pain relief brand Arnicare by Boiron. He recalled using the product since childhood in France and finding it less common in the U.S. upon his arrival. "For me it’s a great product that helps me feel younger and recover after activity," he stated.
