The Golden State Warriors explored acquiring Jaren Jackson Jr. before the Memphis Grizzlies traded the former Defensive Player of the Year to Utah at the February trade deadline, according to an insider report. This pursuit adds to a series of notable players the Warriors have pursued as they attempt to bolster their roster around Stephen Curry.

ESPN’s Anthony Slater revealed that Golden State "was kind of sniffing around" Jackson. The talks, however, were not advanced as the Warriors’ attention shifted toward pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo. Memphis ultimately traded Jackson to Utah in exchange for three first-round picks.

The Warriors' intensified search for significant roster upgrades began after Jimmy Butler suffered a season-ending torn ACL in January. General manager Mike Dunleavy acknowledged that Butler's injury altered the team's objectives, prompting them to seek players who could extend Curry's championship window. Jackson emerged as one option during this period.

Golden State's pursuit of Antetokounmpo reportedly involved an offer that included Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga, four first-round picks, and a pick swap. However, Milwaukee reportedly did not engage deeply enough to finalize a deal. The Warriors also explored acquiring Kristaps Porzingis, sending Kuminga and Buddy Hield to Atlanta as part of that transaction. The failed pursuit of Antetokounmpo also reportedly created uncertainty regarding Draymond Green's future with the team.

Furthermore, the Warriors inquired about Kawhi Leonard around the trade deadline when it appeared the Los Angeles Clippers might consider significant roster changes. No deal materialized from those discussions.

Following the trade deadline, Golden State continued to explore avenues for acquiring star talent. The team had reportedly been strategizing potential pursuits of both Antetokounmpo and LeBron James shortly after Butler's injury. Antetokounmpo eventually joined the Miami Heat, while Golden State reportedly made a strong push for James before he chose to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers. Discussions also included pairing James with Anthony Davis, though those talks did not gain traction with Washington, as the Wizards were reportedly unwilling to trade Davis. The Warriors also engaged in talks regarding Jaylen Brown, but an organizational consensus on Boston's asking price could not be reached.

Individually, each missed opportunity can be seen as understandable. Collectively, these pursuits highlight the Warriors' persistent efforts to find another centerpiece player to complement Curry in their quest for championships.
