Veteran edge rusher Von Miller shared an image of himself wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey on his Instagram Story Wednesday, fueling speculation about his free agency status. This move comes days after Miller told SB Nation that playing for the Cowboys would be a desirable outcome.
Miller, who grew up in Dallas, cited personal connections as reasons for wanting to join the team. He noted that it would allow him to play closer to his parents, potentially alleviating their need to travel for games, as his mother has attended every NFL game of his career. Additionally, his children and girlfriend reside in Dallas.
"You know we talked about that magnetic field in College Station [when he played at Texas A&M],” Miller said, referencing his college alma mater. “Maybe the magnetic field here in Dallas will get me there. So I would love to play for the Dallas Cowboys, and it’d be amazing.”
Last season, Miller played for the Commanders, an NFC East rival, a decision he has since called a mistake. He had anticipated a strong year from quarterback Jayden Daniels and believed the team could contend for a championship. "Obviously, I picked the wrong team on that one,” Miller stated on the "89" podcast.
The eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro is currently searching for a new team as training camps are set to begin in late July. Miller has previously expressed openness to a return to the Denver Broncos, where he spent 10 seasons and holds franchise records for sacks with 110.5. He was also named Super Bowl MVP with the Broncos in 2016.
